Do you owe the fee for not having health insurance coverage in 2014? If so, you may still be eligible to enroll for coverage for 2015 if:

  • You didn’t know until after Open Enrollment ended on February 15, 2015 that the health care law required you and your household to have health coverage, or you didn’t understand how the requirement would impact you and your household
  • You owe the fee for not having coverage in 2014
  • You aren’t already enrolled in 2015 coverage

If all of these apply to you, you can enroll in a 2015 plan between March 15, 2015 and April 30, 2015.

Penalties for being uninsured in 2015 are the higher of 2% of annual household income or $325 per adult ($162.50 per child under 18).

Do you know that having a Major Life Change may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to enroll in Individual health Insurance

Examples include:

  • Marriage
  • Having a baby
  • Adopting a child
  • Losing other group health coverage
  • Turning age 26, and losing group coverage
  • Permanently moving outside of your current plan’s coverage area
